The purpose of a tournaments is also to evaluate the student
progress after training a number of hours. Since Taekwon-Do is a
form of self-defence, tournaments is the closets “control
environment” where students can test their Taekwon-Do skills.
Tournaments have many benefits. Most importantly students build confidence as they are able to demonstrate and test their skills against someone else. They learn to control fear against a stronger opponent as well as exercise compassion toward a weaker opponent.
Every student must attend at least one tournament per year. Their first tournament is at our Inter-School Tournament in Regina; here they get their feet wet sort of speaking. As they progress up their belt ranks, students are invited to attend out of province tournaments. As student attend more and more tournaments, they learn to work harder to improve their skills for the next one. The end result, their confidence and sense of accomplishment grows. Their mind and body is healthier and happier.
